I have been in a very fortunate situation in attempting to make up the Coghlan family tree, our funeral records go back to about 1880, so I have been able to look back a cross reference my relatives. Also a lot of my relatives have lived locally. It would seem that my Great Great Grandfather (5 generations away was a prison officer on a ship carrying French prisoners. He originated from Southern Ireland. He was bringing the prisoners to southern England, and the ship got shipwrecked in the Solent, and the prisoners where taken to Portchester Castle. From here my Great Great Grandfather Michael set up a carpentry business in Portland Street in Fareham. The main business was established in 1861
